“In Jerusalem, we visited Hovy’s patient, L., the old gogo for whom the team put together a commode last year. Her legs are now so weak that she crawled to the door to let us in (a very sad sight). Zwelithini [care worker] wants her to get X-rays so they can see exactly what has happened to her broken leg and possibly set it right.”
“We then visited a very sick woman, J. Mamatji [care worker] had spent the entire previous day with her at the clinic. She is on ARV’s and very likely has TB. She is awaiting those results. Mamatji brought her food yesterday (Wednesday) on her way home. On Monday of this week, Mamatji told us J. passed away. She left three children behind, ages 11, 8 and 5, now adding to the already too huge orphan count here.”
There are currently well over two million orphaned and vulnerable children in South Africa out of a population of about 45 million; it presents a huge and continuing challenge.
Thank you Ruthie and Frank for all your love for these peoples . I wish I could be loving there with you
