World AIDS Day

World AIDS Day is an opportunity for you to learn the facts about HIV and put your knowledge into action. If you understand how HIV is transmitted, how it can be prevented, and the reality of living with HIV today, you can use this knowledge to take care of your own health and the health of others, and ensure you treat everyone living with HIV fairly, and with respect and understanding without discriminating those who are living with the HIV virus.
We believe that as we celebrate this day today; World Aids Day, it will of course give the opportunity to increase awareness and an easy access of treatment along with various preventive measures.

Half rations

A few months ago, from donations received in May, three child-headed households began to receive much-needed monthly food parcels.  A volunteer reports:

“Management has added another three families onto the three families that I was working with, they saw the need to add these families because they said a lot of orphaned children are sleeping on empty stomachs and that supporting one family with R1 000 was a waste of precious money. Instead they opted that I must split the money and buy R5 00 worth of groceries to the three old families as well as the new added families.”

More food parcels

Last week, we were able to distribute food parcels to 160 patients and 60 orphans and vulnerable children, thanks to funding from the Starfish Foundation.  Happy day!

Food parcels

As a result of a donation we received recently, we have been able to provide monthly food parcels for three more child-headed households: a total of ten children.  After one family were visited, volunteer Michael Bobbert reported:

“They were really happy to see us arrive with the food and they showed gratitude to the deepest level. They told me that sometimes they went days without eating a proper meal and had to live on of handouts from neighour’s.”

K2 Security

The recent burglary at our K2 offices has shown that our current security system is not working properly, and our insurers have requested an upgrade.  What we need to do now is to rewire the whole site and buildings,  including the fence, so that our security system will be up to standard. It will include a radio link to to the security company for an armed response in case of break-ins.  We have had a quote for R6325 ($500/£325) to install the upgrade – excluding ongoing costs.
